        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 14, 2006

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of September 2006 as "Ovarian Cancer
     2     Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Every woman is at risk for ovarian cancer regardless
     4  of age, heritage or medical history; and
     5     WHEREAS, A woman's risk of being diagnosed with ovarian
     6  cancer is one in 58; and
     7     WHEREAS, Breast cancer survivors, especially women 50 years
     8  of age or older, have an even higher risk of developing ovarian
     9  cancer; and

     1     WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society estimates that 22,500
     2  women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year and 16,210
     3  women died of the disease last year; and
     4     WHEREAS, Lack of awareness and education about ovarian cancer
     5  is an important factor in late-stage diagnoses, which can cut
     6  survival rates in half; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     8  month of September 2006 as "Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month" in
     9  Pennsylvania.
