        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 23, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of May 9 through 15, 2004, as "National
     2     Police Week" and May 15, 2004, as "National Police Officers'
     3     Memorial Day."

     4     WHEREAS, Approximately 600 police officers have made the
     5  ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within
     6  this Commonwealth by being killed in the line of duty; and
     7     WHEREAS, National Police Officers' Memorial Day is held on
     8  May 15 of each year; and
     9     WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 9 through
    10  15, 2004, is recognized as "National Police Week"; and


     1     WHEREAS, The first National Police Officers' Memorial Day was
     2  held on May 15, 1962, following a proclamation signed by
     3  President John F. Kennedy, and has continued to be observed
     4  annually in memory of those police officers who made the
     5  ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the memory
     7  of the hundreds of police officers who gave their lives in the
     8  line of duty in this Commonwealth; and be it further
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    10  week of May 9 through 15, 2004, as "National Police Week" and
    11  May 15, 2004, as "National Police Officers' Memorial Day."
