        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 6, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of January 25 through 31, 2004, as "Catholic
     2     Schools Week" in this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are
     4  celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 25 through 31,
     5  2004; and
     6     WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools, educating
     7  approximately 200,000 students annually, save State and local
     8  taxpayers more than $1 billion each year; and
     9     WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong

     1  foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and
     2  leadership skills; and
     3     WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people with
     4  solid values and academic skills needed in becoming responsible
     5  citizens of this Commonwealth and nation, have a dropout rate of
     6  less than 3% and a postgraduate higher education enrollment rate
     7  of 80%; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
     9  of January 25 through 31, 2004, as "Catholic Schools Week" in
    10  this Commonwealth and express congratulations and appreciation
    11  to Catholic elementary and secondary schools across this
    12  Commonwealth on the occasion of "Catholic Schools Week" in 2004.
