                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the life of Marine First Lieutenant Travis Joseph Lemma
     2     Manion, United States Marine Corps, who paid the supreme
     3     sacrifice in the service of his country on April 29, 2007, at
     4     the age of 26 when he was killed during combat operations in
     5     the Al Anbar province, Iraq, while serving his second tour of
     6     duty assigned to the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine
     7     Division, 1st United States Marine Expeditionary Force based
     8     at Camp Pendleton, California.

     9     WHEREAS, Marine First Lieutenant Travis Joseph Lemma Manion,
    10  a resident of Doylestown, was a decorated student athlete at
    11  LaSalle College High School and at the United States Naval
    12  Academy, from which he graduated in 2004; and


     1     WHEREAS, Lt. Manion, 26, was a source of inspiration and
     2  strength to his family and friends and a role model to those he
     3  served with for our country; and
     4     WHEREAS, Lt. Manion was assigned to the 1st Reconnaissance
     5  Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st United States Marine
     6  Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, California, and was
     7  serving his second tour of duty in Iraq; and
     8     WHEREAS, As an advisor to the Iraqi army, Lt. Manion led his
     9  troops consistently and worked diligently with his Marines and
    10  Iraqi counterparts to establish stability in the Al Anbar
    11  province, which has since been recognized as a region which has
    12  achieved major success in the Iraq war, and, in tribute to his
    13  consistently courageous actions, the Iraqi army has named their
    14  command headquarters in his name; and
    15     WHEREAS, On April 29, 2007, Lt. Manion again demonstrated
    16  extraordinary heroism while pulling two wounded Marines from the
    17  line of fire and selflessly putting himself in harm's way to
    18  suppress a fierce enemy ambush and, in doing so, gave his life
    19  in order to save the lives of his entire patrol of Marines and
    20  Iraqi army counterparts; and
    21     WHEREAS, Lt. Manion is survived by his parents, Janette and
    22  Thomas Manion, and by his sister, Ryan Borek, her husband David
    23  and her daughter Maggie Rose; and
    24     WHEREAS, It is fitting to recognize the exemplary life of
    25  this fallen hero and leader of Marines; therefore be it
    26     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of
    27  Marine First Lieutenant Travis Joseph Lemma Manion, who paid the
    28  supreme sacrifice on April 29, 2007, when he was killed during
    29  combat operations in the Al Anbar province, Iraq.
