INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 6, 1998
A RESOLUTION 1 Observing the week of June 1 through 7, 1998, as "National 2 Fishing Week" and proclaiming June 6, 1998, as "Fish for Free 3 Day" in Pennsylvania. 4 WHEREAS, Approximately 1.5 million Pennsylvanians fish the 5 waters of this Commonwealth, making in excess of 26 million 6 trips to those waters each year; and 7 WHEREAS, The sport of fishing contributes $1.3 billion of 8 economic input to this Commonwealth; and 9 WHEREAS, Fishing is an established recreational tradition 10 rooted deeply in the history of our State and its citizens; and 11 WHEREAS, "National Fishing Week," June 1 through 7, 1998, is 12 a multifaceted public-private cooperative program designed to 13 promote recreational fishing and aquatic resource education in 14 the United States; and 15 WHEREAS, A "Fish for Free Day" provides all Pennsylvanians 16 16 years of age and older with an opportunity to sample the
1 diversity of fishing opportunities without a fishing license; 2 therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives observe the week 4 of June 1 through 7, 1998, as "National Fishing Week" in 5 Pennsylvania and encourage residents of this Commonwealth to 6 take the opportunity to participate in a sport that is truly 7 universal; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That Pennsylvania celebrate the 1998 "National 9 Fishing Week" by declaring June 6 as "Fish for Free Day."
