A RESOLUTION 1 Observing March 9, 2002, as "International Day of Service" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., an international 4 public service sorority founded at Howard University in 1913, 5 has more than 190,000 members and 850 chapters, including 6 chapters in Japan, Germany, Africa and the Virgin Islands; and 7 WHEREAS, The Program, Planning and Development Committee of 8 the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter is holding public service events 9 on Saturday, March 9, 2002, as part of Delta Sigma Theta's 10 "International Day of Service"; and 11 WHEREAS, Activities include an "Awareness Blitz" involving 12 public service announcements and distribution of information on 13 HIV and AIDS in Pittsburgh area churches, including St. Paul 14 Baptist Church, Homewood AME Zion Church, Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist
1 Church, Wesley Center, Bethel AME Church, Resurrection Baptist 2 Church, Rodman Street Baptist Church, John Wesley AME Zion 3 Church, West End AME Church, Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Holy 4 Cross Episcopal Church and Central Baptist Church; and 5 WHEREAS, In connection with this activity, the Pittsburgh 6 Alumnae Chapter's 125 members will be involved in outreach 7 programs relating to HIV/AIDS and the African-American 8 community; and 9 WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter members are also hosting 10 an HIV/AIDS awareness seminar at Sojourner House, a faith-based 11 residential and treatment facility in the Garfield section of 12 Pittsburgh for women with a history of addiction and their 13 children; and 14 WHEREAS, The seminar includes training sessions for Sojourner 15 House residents as well as a luncheon for residents and their 16 children; therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in recognition 18 of the fine public service work of the Pittsburgh Alumnae 19 Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., observe March 9, 20 2002, as "International Day of Service" in Pennsylvania.
