                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 23 (Domestic Relations) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further providing for trial and
     3     punishment in protection from abuse action.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 6114(b) of Title 23 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 6114.  Contempt for violation of order or agreement.
     9     * * *
    10     (b)  Trial and punishment.--A sentence for contempt under
    11  this chapter may include imprisonment up to [six] 12 months or a
    12  fine of not less than [$100] $250 nor more than [$1,000] $2,500,
    13  or both, and may include other relief set forth in this chapter.
    14  All moneys received under this section shall be forwarded to the
    15  Commonwealth and shall be used by the Pennsylvania State Police
    16  to establish and maintain the Statewide registry of protection
    17  orders provided for in section 6105 (relating to

     1  responsibilities of law enforcement agencies). The defendant
     2  shall not have a right to a jury trial on such a charge;
     3  however, the defendant shall be entitled to counsel.

     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
