A RESOLUTION 1 Appointing a select committee to investigate the circumstances 2 surrounding the need for Limerick Unit II Nuclear Generating 3 Station proposed by the Philadelphia Electric Company and the 4 potential impact on residential and industrial ratepayers if 5 it is completed. 6 WHEREAS, There is continuing public concern and controversy 7 over the proposed building of the nuclear generating station 8 called Limerick Unit II; and 9 WHEREAS, There appears to be a question concerning the need 10 for the additional capacity given the availability of power 11 available from other sources; and 12 WHEREAS, There is concern about the projected project costs 13 and the necessity for additional investment in the Limerick Unit 14 II project; and 15 WHEREAS, The potential impact on affected ratepayers - 16 residential and industrial - could be deleterious in light of 17 already projected rate increases to the population; and 18 WHEREAS, There is the possibility that unemployment may 19 result from small and large businesses who can no longer afford
1 ever-increasing electric costs; therefore be it 2 RESOLVED, That the Speaker of the House of Representatives 3 appoint a select committee of eight members, four from the 4 majority party and four from the minority party to conduct a 5 thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the need 6 for Limerick Unit II Nuclear Generating Station; and be it 7 further 8 RESOLVED, That the committee may hold hearings, and take 9 testimony at such places as it deems necessary within the 10 Commonwealth. Each member of the committee shall have power to 11 administer oaths and affirmations to witnesses appearing before 12 the committee; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That the select committee shall pay particular 14 attention to: 15 (1) The potential impact on ratepayers - consumers and 16 industries - located within the utility service area. 17 (2) Potential alternative sources of electrical energy 18 to that service area; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That within 30 calendar days after the select 20 committee has made its report, the chairman of the committee 21 shall cause a record of all expenses incurred by the committee, 22 or the members thereof, which are payable at Commonwealth 23 expense, to be filed with the Speaker of the House; and be it 24 further 25 RESOLVED, That the select committee report back as soon as 26 its study and investigation are completed together with its 27 findings and recommendations for legislation.
