                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for annual inspection of passenger cars.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  Section 4702 of Title 75, act of November 25,
     6  1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes, subsection (a) amended June 18, 1980 (No.67), is
     8  amended to read:
     9  § 4702.  Requirement for periodic inspection of vehicles.
    10     (a)  General rule.--The department shall establish a system
    11  of semiannual inspection of vehicles registered in this
    12  Commonwealth and mass transit vehicles operated in this
    13  Commonwealth.
    14     (b)  Annual inspection of certain vehicles.--Recreational
    15  trailers, passenger cars, vehicles registered as antique and


     1  classic vehicles, firefighting vehicles and motorcycles shall be
     2  subject to annual inspection.
     3     (c)  Inspection of vehicles reentering this Commonwealth.--
     4  Owners of Pennsylvania registered vehicles which have been
     5  outside of this Commonwealth continuously for 30 days or more
     6  and which at the time of reentering this Commonwealth do not
     7  bear a currently valid certificate of inspection and approval
     8  shall, within five days of reentering this Commonwealth, proceed
     9  to an official inspection station for an inspection of the
    10  vehicle.
    11     (d)  Extension of inspection period.--The department may, by
    12  regulation, extend the time for any of the inspections required
    13  by this chapter for not more than 30 days due to weather
    14  conditions or other causes which render compliance with the
    15  provisions of this chapter within the prescribed time difficult
    16  or impossible.
    17     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
