AS AMENDED, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, FEBRUARY 7, 1994
A RESOLUTION 1 Memorializing the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the 2 House Foreign Affairs Committee in Congress to hold open 3 general hearings regarding the plight of the men, women and 4 children caught in the war in Bosnia, Hercegovina. 5 WHEREAS, Linda Ann Veno, an American wife and mother, as well 6 as other Pennsylvanians, witnessed first-hand the atrocities 7 endured by innocent men, women and children in Bosnia, 8 Hercegovina; and 9 WHEREAS, Upon delivering much-needed medical supplies and 10 humanitarian aid to Bosnia, these courageous Pennsylvanians 11 discovered the complete disrespect for human life suffered by 12 Bosnian citizens regardless of their religion or ethnicity; and 13 WHEREAS, Croatian and Moslem children between the ages of 8 14 and 13 were playing together near the Mir (Peace) Hospital in 15 Mostar when an artillery shell killed six of them and maimed 16 three of them; and
1 WHEREAS, Families are being separated, lives are being 2 destroyed, neighbors are fighting neighbors and children are 3 left dying in the streets; and 4 WHEREAS, The genocide in this part of our world is 5 reminiscent of a time in world history when America's eyes and 6 ears could not see or hear human suffering; and 7 WHEREAS, When America discovered the Holocaust, it vowed to 8 never again allow the systematic destruction of people; and 9 WHEREAS, Bosnia needs America's eyes, ears and hearts to be 10 opened to the truth of its plight; and 11 WHEREAS, Moved by her experience in Bosnia and recognizing 12 the need to end the war, Mrs. Veno, upon her return to 13 Pennsylvania, established the Mother's Love Foundation to raise 14 the level of consciousness of Americans to the plight of 15 Bosnians and to raise funds for airlifting needy children to the 16 United States to receive medical care and for building 17 facilities in Bosnia to care for orphaned children there; 18 therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, That the Senate HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES of the <-- 20 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania commend Linda Ann Veno for her 21 courageous work and for establishing the Mother's Love 22 Foundation; and be it further 23 RESOLVED, That the Senate HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES <-- 24 memorialize Congress to seriously consider the increasing 25 inhumanity of the current situation in Bosnia, Hercegovina; and 26 be it further 27 RESOLVED, That the Senate HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES <-- 28 memorialize the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House 29 Foreign Affairs Committee in Congress to hold open general 30 hearings regarding the plight of the men, women and children 19940H0244R3211 - 2 -
1 caught in the war in Bosnia; and be it further 2 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 3 the presiding officers of each house of Congress; to the members 4 of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; to the members of the 5 House Foreign Affairs Committee; to floor leaders of each house 6 of Congress; to each member of Congress from Pennsylvania; to 7 the Secretary of State, the Honorable Warren Christopher; and to 8 the President, the Honorable William Jefferson Clinton.
