                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for program of
     6     continuing professional education.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1205.2(f) of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, added
    11  November 23, 1999 (P.L.529, No.48), is amended to read:
    12     Section 1205.2.  Program of Continuing Professional
    13  Education.--* * *
    14     (f)  The department shall annually provide a minimum of forty
    15  (40) hours of continuing professional education courses,
    16  programs, activities or learning experiences at no charge to
    17  professional educators employed or contracted by a school entity


     1  as a professional employe, temporary professional employe or
     2  substitute. In providing these courses, the department shall
     3  seek to use the most efficient and cost-effective means
     4  possible, including the use of advanced technology such as CD-
     5  ROM, the Internet and distance communication.

     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003, or
     8  immediately, whichever is later.
