           WOZNIAK, GEIST, KENNEY, HARPER, MELIO, JOHNSON, NAILOR,
           TOMLINSON, HERSHEY, M. N. WRIGHT, S. H. SMITH, BROWN, MAIALE,
           PHILLIPS, HARLEY, ARMSTRONG, LEH, DeLUCA, WILSON, BILLOW,
           OLASZ AND LAWLESS, JUNE 19, 1991

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 19, 1991

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Congress to immediately terminate funding for
     2     the Office of Independent Counsel: Iran/Contra.

     3     WHEREAS, Independent Counsel, Lawrence E. Walsh, was
     4  appointed by President Reagan in 1987; and
     5     WHEREAS, He was appointed to investigate and prosecute
     6  alleged wrong doing associated with the covert resupply of the
     7  Nicaraguan Democratic Resistance, the hostage extraction
     8  operations and various other matters involved in what has come
     9  to be known to the public as the Iran/Contra Affair; and
    10     WHEREAS, These matters have been fully investigated and
    11  prosecuted; and
    12     WHEREAS, Despite having fully completed the task assigned to
    13  him, the Independent Counsel's Office remains open at a cost of
    14  nearly $30,000 a day; and
    15     WHEREAS, Such an unnecessary expenditure can not be condoned
    16  and is even more unacceptable now considering the Federal


     1  deficit; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize the
     3  Congress to immediately terminate funding for the Office of
     4  Independent Council: Iran/Contra; and be it further
     5     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     6  the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
     7  member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
