A RESOLUTION
1 Congratulating the City of Nanticoke on its 200th Anniversary.
2 WHEREAS, The City of Nanticoke is celebrating the momentous
3 occasion of its 200th Anniversary; and
4 WHEREAS, The City of Nanticoke owes its beginning to the
5 water power provided by the Nanticoke Falls, which encouraged
6 the establishment of mills by early settlers. The city's name
7 was derived from Nentego, the Tidewater people, who moved here
8 when their Maryland lands were spoiled for hunting by colonial
9 settlement; and
10 WHEREAS, Throughout its glorious history, the City of
11 Nanticoke has been blessed with a succession of civic leaders
12 whose guidance and leadership have helped it to grow and
13 flourish, as well as citizens whose diligence and dedication
14 have helped it to become a vital and inspiring presence in this
15 Commonwealth. Today the community looks forward to the future
16 with the same hope that filled the hearts of its early settlers;
17 therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
2 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania heartily congratulate the City of
3 Nanticoke upon the joyous and momentous occasion of its
4 bicentennial; extend profound best wishes for many more joyous
5 celebrations in the years to come; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution, sponsored by the
7 Honorable Stanley J. Jarolin on March 1, 1993, be transmitted to
8 the City of Nanticoke.
