A RESOLUTION 1 Lauding Charles L. Blockson for his contributions to the 2 preservation of Black history. 3 WHEREAS, Charles L. Blockson has spent more than 40 years 4 collecting items relating to the traditions and history of Afro- 5 Americans; and 6 WHEREAS, This distinguished bibliophile donated his 7 collection, covering more than four centuries, to Temple 8 University, where it is part of the Special Collections 9 Department of the Temple University Libraries; and 10 WHEREAS, This Norristown native, who serves a curator of the 11 collection, has set an enthusiastic and scholarly example for 12 this nation's researchers in ethnic studies; and 13 WHEREAS, His Historical Marker Project in Philadelphia aids 14 in preserving the legacy of Afro-Americans as well as their 15 unique experience in the city; and 16 WHEREAS, This noted author has written six books: 17 Pennsylvania's Black History (1975), Black Genealogy (1977), The
1 Underground Railroad in Pennsylvania (1981), The Underground 2 Railroad: First Person Narratives of Escapes to Freedom in the 3 North (1987), A Commented Bibliography of One Hundred and One 4 Influential Books by and About People of African Descent (1989) 5 and The Catalogue of the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American 6 Collection (1991); and 7 WHEREAS, The Montgomery County Commissioners have declared 8 Sunday, April 14, 1991, to be "Charles L. Blockson Day" in 9 Montgomery County; therefore be it 10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join in the 11 salute to Charles L.
