3"Bridge" and inserting

4; and designating a bridge to be constructed on that portion of
5State Route 903 over the Lehigh River, Jim Thorpe Borough,
6Carbon County, as the Sgt. Andrew J. "AJ" Baddick Memorial
7Bridge.

9Section 5. Sgt. Andrew J. "AJ" Baddick Memorial Bridge.

10(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
11follows:

12(1) Sgt. Andrew J. "AJ" Baddick was a native of Jim
13Thorpe, Carbon County, and a 1997 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area
14Senior High School.

15(2) Sgt. Baddick enlisted in the United States Army in
161999 and graduated from Jump School at Fort Benning, Georgia,
17on February 14, 2001.

18(3) Later that same year, Sgt. Baddick reenlisted in the
19United States Army for six years.

20(4) In 2002, Sgt. Baddick was awarded the Army
21Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service while assigned as
22a Dismounted Infantryman in recognition of loyalty and
23commitment to excellence.

24(5) Later that same year, Sgt. Baddick was deployed to
25Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

26(6) Sgt. Baddick received the Soldier's Medal which is
27awarded to any member of the United States Armed Forces who,
28while serving in any capacity with the United States Army,
29distinguishes himself by heroism not involving actual
30conflict with an enemy.

31(7) Sgt. Baddick was honorably serving his country while
32on active duty in Iraq on September 29, 2003, when he gave
33his life attempting to rescue a fellow soldier from a
34submerged military vehicle.

35(8) Sgt. Baddick, beloved son of Ann Callen Baddick and

1Joseph Baddick, was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star.

2(b) Designation.--The bridge to be constructed on State
3Route 903 over the Lehigh River in Jim Thorpe Borough, Carbon
4County, is hereby designated the Sgt. Andrew J. "AJ" Baddick
5Memorial Bridge.

6(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
7maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
8traffic in both directions on the bridge.
