Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 26, 2017 10:21 AM
From: Senator Camera Bartolotta
To: All Senate members
Subject: Nurse Practitioner Week Resolution

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing November 12-18, 2017, as “Nurse Practitioner Week” in Pennsylvania which is intended to increase public awareness of the important role that nurse practitioners play in providing vital healthcare services.

There are approximately 11,600 nurse practitioners, or advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), who are currently practicing in the Commonwealth and providing primary, acute and specialty care to patients of all ages. Patients have demonstrated great trust in the high-quality care nurse practitioners provide, resulting in more than one billion patient visits annually to nurse practitioners across the country.

As citizens, we all benefit from the high quality and cost effective care provided by nurse practitioners and that is why Pennsylvania should embrace the approach taken by 22 other states and the District of Columbia to grant full practice authority to these providers. I have sponsored legislation to this effect – Senate Bill 25 – which passed the Senate earlier this year and currently awaits further consideration by the House of Representatives.

Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution and acknowledging the service of Pennsylvania’s nurse practitioners.
