Subject:	Advanced Placement Articulation

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation to expand on the Transfer and Articulation Program. Specifically, this proposal would include credits for matriculating college freshmen who have taken Advanced Placement (AP) exams in high school with scores that qualify them for college course credits. This legislation will ensure that high school students who have taken Advanced Placement courses and obtained a score of 3 or more on the AP exam will receive college course credit from Pennsylvania public institutions of higher education. Additionally, this legislation will also include those students in an International Baccalaureate, College-Level Examination Program and DANTES subject standardized tests. Last session a companion proposal passed the House overwhelmingly. At a time when higher education costs are growing at an unsustainable pace for students and their families, we should not require students to pay for college courses they have already taken and passed in high school. By eliminating the need to pay for duplicate courses, students will save thousands of dollars in college tuition costs. Please join me in sponsoring this proposal to eliminate an unnecessary expense for our Advanced Placement students.
