Subject: | "Sleep Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania (March 5 through 12, 2017) |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution recognizing March 5 through 12, 2017, as "Sleep Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania. Numerous Americans suffer from sleep-related disturbance that prevent them from getting adequate sleep, impacts their daytime functioning and leads some of them to self-medicate the consequences of sleep loss with substances such as caffeine and alcohol. Pennsylvania residents should be aware that their sleep is an important component of their health and safety, and public awareness of the signs and symptoms of sleep disorders is important in seeking effective treatment. National Sleep Awareness Week takes place March 5 through 12, 2017, and is an annual public education and awareness campaign to promote the importance of sleep. The National Sleep Awareness Foundation typically designates the week leading up to the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, when most Americans lose an hour of sleep. This timing presents a great opportunity for the public to adjust their sleep routines and make beneficial changes. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
