MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 4, 2017 02:05 PM
From: Senator Scott E. Hutchinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Reduced Fee Hunting Licenses for Nonresident Disabled Veterans

In the near future I intend to introduce legislation amending Title 34 (Game) that will extend reduced fee hunting and furtaking licenses to non-resident disabled veterans and former prisoners of war.

Currently, any Pennsylvania veteran who is 100% disabled or has lost the use of one or more limbs due to service is eligible for a free hunting or furtaking license. Pennsylvania veterans who possess a disability rating between 60% and 99% due to an injury incurred during service and those who are former prisoners of war are eligible for a hunting or furtaking license at the cost of one dollar.

I was recently contacted by a non-profit organization, Waterfowlers for Warriors, which offers hunting opportunities to wounded veterans. Unfortunately, this organization and others like it have incurred higher costs when obtaining licenses for non-resident disabled veterans.

Men and women who have experienced debilitating injuries in the service of our nation should be eligible for these reduced cost licenses regardless of their residency. Please consider joining me in cosponsoring this important legislation. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Nathan Akers in my office at 787-9684 or nakers@pasen.gov.
