Subject: | Naming Designation Requirements |
In the near future, I plan on re-introducing legislation that would clarify the requirements for naming designation. I believe that having a piece of public infrastructure named after someone is a great honor and should be done for those who are outstanding citizens of the Commonwealth. Though rare, there have been instances where someone who has received recognition through a name designation has gone on to commit a felony or other violent crimes. This legislation would require that in order for someone to be an eligible candidate for name designation they must be deceased. This would allow individuals’ records of service or contribution to be fully vetted and would preserve the honor and integrity of these naming designations. This legislation was Senate Bill 1132 of last session. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Nathan Akers in my office at 787-9684 or nakers@pasen.gov. |
