Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 12, 2016 10:12 AM
From: Senator Rob Teplitz
To: All Senate members
Subject: Recognizing International Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing December 10, 2016 as “International Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania.” The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was crafted in response to the atrocities committed by the Nazis during World War II. Referred to as “the international Magna Carta for all mankind” due to its intent to clarify the rights of all human beings, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled. On December 10th, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. December 10th is observed by various entities as a day to promote human rights awareness throughout the world. This year marks the 68th anniversary of that historic event.

This resolution has been previously introduced in the House by Representative Brian Sims. I thank him for his cooperation in introducing this resolution in the Senate as well. Please join me in recognizing December 10, 2016 as “International Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania.”

Introduced as SR488
