| I am introducing a resolution recognizing the week of October 16 through 22, 2016, as "National Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania. National Chemistry Week is an annual event designated to raise awareness of the importance of chemistry in everyday life and 2016 marks the 29th anniversary of National Chemistry Week. The mission of National Chemistry Week is to reach the public, particularly elementary and secondary school children, with positive messages about chemistry. The American Chemical Society coordinates “National Chemistry Week” each year and it is designed to be a community-based program that unites the local sections of the society with schools, businesses and individuals in communicating the importance of chemistry to our quality of life. Chemistry provides powerful tools for solving this world’s mysteries. The theme of this year’s National Chemistry Week is “Solving Mysteries Through Chemistry” focusing on the chemistry of forensics and the use of chemistry to solve crime, study the paintings of old masters, solve mysteries in archeology and more. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s chemists and chemical engineers, academic institutions of science and its chemical and pharmaceutical industries are a vital presence essential to the growth and development of the Commonwealth and whose vigor and industriousness have helped shaped Pennsylvania from colonial times. The evolving science of chemistry is essential to this Commonwealth's industry and the well-being of the residents of this Commonwealth. Recognizing the above, I believe it is important that the Senate recognize the week of October 16 through 22, 2016, as "National Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania. |
