Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 8, 2016 02:38 PM
From: Senator Christine M. Tartaglione
To: All Senate members
Subject: Hispanic Heritage Month

In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution that would designate September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Pennsylvania, in recognition of the many achievements of Hispanic Americans throughout the Commonwealth.

Since 1988, the U.S. has acknowledged the contributions of Hispanic Americans in our Nation through a federal proclamation. Today, Hispanics represent over 750,000 residents in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is the largest and fastest growing minority ethnic group in the United States.

The Hispanic community has made a profound and positive influence on our Commonwealth through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work and service. They have enhanced and shaped our national character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multiethnic and multicultural customs of their community.

This resolution encourages all Pennsylvanians to celebrate the diversity and rich culture that make our Commonwealth and nation so extraordinary by proclaiming September 15th through October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month in Pennsylvania. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
