Subject: | Creating of Council on Jazz Education and Preservation |
In the near future I plan on introducing legislation that would create a Council on Jazz Education and Preservation which would serve to preserve, promote, educate, and market jazz in the Commonwealth. This legislation would be mirrored off the Council on the Arts. It creates a Council on Jazz Education and Preservation which would be responsible for providing grants to organizations that promote, encourage, foster, market and preserve jazz throughout the Commonwealth. The Council is compromised of one member appointed by the Governor and one member appointed by each caucus. As you may know, April is Jazz Appreciation Month and Pennsylvania has a rich history with Jazz. Artists from Billie Holiday to the Dorsey Brothers were born here, while others, such as John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie, spent time in the Commonwealth honing their sounds. I hope you join me in preserving, promoting, educating and marketing jazz in this Commonwealth. This is a rich history which needs our support. Please contact my office if you have any questions. |
