Subject: | Resolution- Older Americans Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of May 2016 as Older Americans Month. Since 1963, this nation has honored the legacies and ongoing contributions of older Americans during the month of May, and it has supported these individuals as they transition into their new phases of life. In Pennsylvania, during this monthly designation, we recognize the contributions made by older persons, and we pay tribute to the accomplishments of these individuals within our communities. This year, as we celebrate the theme, “Blaze a Trail,” emphasizes the ways older adults are reinventing themselves through new work and new passion, engaging their communities, and blazing a trail of positive impact on the lives people of all ages. Thanks to modern medicines and technologies, individuals are living longer and remaining active as they grow older. However, it is imperative for these individuals to regulate their own health through self-monitoring and regular doctor visits. This will enable senior adults to pursue new challenges and adventures in an active, healthy and positive way. For all of their hard work and contributions, we owe such individuals our support, respect and gratitude. On behalf of older citizens in this Commonwealth, I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
