Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 25, 2016 12:47 PM
From: Senator Guy Reschenthaler
To: All Senate members
Subject: Active Duty Military Recognition License Plates

In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation that will authorize PennDOT to issue license plates giving special recognition to active members of the military, reserves and Pennsylvania National Guard. Senator Matt Smith originally introduced this legislation as Senate Bill 712 in April 2015.

During my experience in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps, and particularly during my deployment in Baghdad, Iraq, I witnessed levels of courage, service, and sacrifice I could only previously have imagined. I believe recognizing the courage and dedication of all those who have served our country in the past is the best way to foster and promote these qualities in future generations.

I encourage you to join me in adding special recognition for active members of the military, reserves, and Pennsylvania National Guard. This would be an addition to the currently available license plates with special recognition including but not limited to:
  • World War II veterans
  • Purple Heart recipients
  • Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans

This legislation would amend Title 75 to create §1364.1 recognizing active duty, reserve, and guard personnel for their dedication and service.

Previous co-sponsors included: Senators Scavello, Brewster, Teplitz, Vulakovich, Tartaglione, Fontana, McGarrigle, Schwank, Greenleaf, Mensch, Hughes, Costa, Yudichak, Browne, Rafferty, Farnese, and Blake.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Please contact my office with any questions at 717-787-5839.

Introduced as SB1155
