Subject: National Disability Employment Awareness Month
 

In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.

Twenty five years after the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, individuals with disabilities, including veterans, are making immeasurable contributions to the workforce. Millions of Americans live with disabilities each day, and many others will become disabled at some point in their lives.

This year’s theme, “My Disability Is One Part of Who I Am,” marks 70 years since its first observance and recognizes that disabled people are the sum of many parts, including their work experiences.

By designating October 2015 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we enable all Pennsylvanians to recognize the contributions of Pennsylvanians with disabilities and encourage all citizens to ensure such individuals are afforded equal opportunities in the workplace. At this time, I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
