Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 10, 2014 11:13 AM
From: Senator Jay Costa
To: All Senate members
Subject: Technology Improvement Fund

Please join me in sponsoring legislation introduced as Senate Bill 795 in the 2013-2014 legislative session. The bill was co-sponsored by Senators Brewster, Fontana, Erickson, Browne, Vulakovich, Hughes, Washington, Ferlo, Tartaglione, Farnese, and Schwank.

The legislation establishes a $25 million technology improvement fund for Commonwealth agencies or departments. The Governor would provide a list of information technology projects that he proposes being funded. The General Assembly can modify the list and then pass the list as part of the annual budget. This is designed to provide state agencies with up to date technology since many departments are being required to provide services with fewer employees. The fund would allow departments to undertake expensive and long term computer projects. The $25 million would be transferred from the sales and use tax each year.

I hope you will join me in sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as SB509
