MEMORANDUM

Subject: Extending Free Hunting and Fishing Licenses to Disabled Veterans Paid at the 100 Percent Rate

I will soon be introducing legislation to allow a greater number of disabled veterans to obtain free fishing and hunting licenses.

Currently, a war-time era veteran rated as 100 percent disabled can obtain a free hunting and fishing license as well as a property tax exemption. However, a veteran rated at less than 100 percent disabled but paid at the 100 percent rate due to unemployability can only get the tax exemption -- not the free fishing and hunting license.

My legislation will allow those rated at less than 100 percent disabled but paid at the 100 percent rate due to unemployability to be eligible for a free hunting and fishing license.

Thank you for considering this proposed legislation.

Introduced as SB1090
