Subject: | Resolution Designating March 2013 as "Music In Our Schools Month" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating March 2013 as “Music in Our Schools Month” in Pennsylvania. The study of music nurtures many positive qualities within children. Music promotes skills within the art form itself, such as the reading and comprehension of musical language and theory, performance and even music generation. Studies as to the impact of music on students also show that it improves language and cognitive skills, problem solving abilities, teamwork, creative thinking and cultural understanding. The work done by music educators in our schools is vitally important to the social and academic well being of our students. Music educators are committed to all students, regardless of their abilities or socio-economic status, in fostering and nurturing a robust musical education. Because of the tremendous benefits music educators are able to give to their students through music, I hope you will join me in recognizing the value of music education in our schools by supporting “Music in Our Schools Month” this March. |
