Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 26, 2013 01:54 PM
From: Senator Joseph B. Scarnati, III
To: All Senate members
Subject: Reduced Fee Hunting and Fishing Licenses for Disabled Veterans

In the near future, I plan on introducing a pair of bills creating reduced fee hunting and fishing licenses for disabled veterans residing in the Commonwealth.

Currently, Pennsylvania law allows for free hunting and fishing licenses only for veterans who are either certified as 100% disabled, or who have lost the use of one or more limbs. My legislation would make available reduced fee annual resident hunting and fishing licenses, at a cost of $1 each, to all disabled veterans in the Commonwealth.

Any Pennsylvania veteran eligible for disability compensation as determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs would qualify for the $1 licenses. Veterans certified as having a total disability would continue to qualify for free licenses. Pennsylvania currently offers $1 hunting and fishing licenses to certain active duty military personnel as well.

Disabled veterans have made a tremendous sacrifice for our country. Offering them the opportunity to participate in hunting and fishing activities at a reduced fee is a small but important measure to honor their bravery and express our gratitude for their service.

Please join me in cosponsoring these two pieces of legislation.
