Subject: | Legislation - Amends the Liquor Code to streamline the licensing process |
In the near future we will be introducing legislation that will amend the Liquor Code which will change outdated licensing provisions to allow the PLCB to more quickly and efficiently approve liquor licenses. Throughout the nation, a three-tier system is utilized that prohibits economic relationships between producers of alcohol and distributors of alcohol. This system was put in place to eliminate issues that arose following Prohibition. Our Liquor Code has these protections by providing that no one may have an interest in more than one class of license. While this language is a necessity, certain components of how the law was drafted are no longer relevant in the twenty-first century. The rigid language has placed an undue burden on the PLCB in regard to the licensing process and has further limited the ability of businesses to operate in Pennsylvania. Modernizing this section of the law will help streamline the licensing process as well as permit modern business practices. Please join us in co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you in advance for consideration. |
