MEMORANDUM

Subject: Insurance Rates for Law Enforcement Officers and Emergency Responders

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to limit insurance companies from increasing premiums on automobile policies for law enforcement officers and emergency responders.

My legislation would limit insurance companies from increasing automobile premiums on law enforcement officers and emergency responders if an accident occurs during the performance of their duties or in response to an emergency call. Currently, insurance companies cannot raise a law enforcement officers or emergency responder’s automobile premium for accidents that occur while on duty, however, their premiums could be increased if the accident occurs while in response to an emergency. This legislation would protect law enforcement officers and emergency responders from auto premium increases when an accident occurs while on duty or in response to an emergency.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation.

Introduced as HB1963
