Subject: | Urging the DRBC to suspend moratorium on natural gas drilling |
In the near future I plan to introduce a resolution urging the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) to suspend its consideration of a moratorium on natural gas drilling in Northeast Pennsylvania. As you might be aware recently the DRBC approved, through a preliminary vote, a resolution to begin the process of coming up with a proposal to ban natural gas drilling in the Delaware River watershed. Unfortunately Governor Wolf supported this vote, which would be detrimental for all Pennsylvanians by impacting jobs and depriving landowner’s economic opportunities in the northeastern part of the state. Also concerning is the fact that the governor was joined by officials from New York and Delaware in supporting this measure. While I understand those individuals were doing their duty as part of the commission by taking part in a vote put in front of them, I find it unfortunate they would vote to impact our economy and constituency in a negative fashion. The Army Corps of Engineers voted against the measure and New Jersey abstained from the vote as they, like Delaware, have no shale gas deposits. I hope you will consider signing on to this resolution to urge the Delaware River Basic Commission to stop this process immediately. Thank you for your consideration. |
