Subject: | October as Pennsylvania Fire Prevention Month and October 8-14, 2017, as National Fire Prevention Week |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating October as "Pennsylvania Fire Prevention Month" and observing the week of October 8-14, 2017, as "National Fire Prevention Week." Each year since 1922, Fire Prevention Week is observed across the nation to remind people of fire dangers in their homes and communities, as well as to educate the public about simple fire prevention steps to make everyone safer. Pennsylvania Fire Prevention Month is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of all firefighters, fire service agencies, and other first responders in preventing and combating fire dangers. The theme of Fire Prevention Week 2017 is “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” Seconds count in a fire. They can mean the difference between escaping a fire and ending in tragedy. This year’s theme is an important reminder of why everyone needs to have an escape plan that includes having two exits. Previous co-sponsors: BAKER, BARBIN, BARRAR, BIZZARRO, BOBACK, R.
