MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 29, 2017 01:47 PM
From: Representative Carl Walker Metzgar
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution to commemorate the 16th anniversary of 9/11

It is likely that we all remember what we were doing on September 11, 2001. These memories will be with each one of us for a lifetime.

Those who lost loved ones as a result of the terrorist attacks live with more than just memories of the cowardly act of the al-Qaeda militants. They have faced each day of the past fourteen years without the lost family member or friend. In the wake of September 11, 2001 members of our military have shown great sacrifice and persistence in fighting the global war.

It is clear that the events of September 11th changed the lives of many Americans. The bravery of those who sacrificed their lives has served as an inspiration to the American people, as well. The first responders who worked valiantly to rescue those trapped in the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center deserve the highest honor we can give them.

The events that took place in the air above Pennsylvania demonstrate selflessness and true patriotism. Due to the actions of the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93, the plane crashed in a field in Stony Creek Township, Somerset County – located in my legislative district – rather than into its intended target, which many believe was the U.S. Capitol or the White House.

In an effort to honor the victims of September 11th and their families, as well as the first responders, the military heroes and all those who had a hand in the recovery and rebuilding work that has taken place over the past 14 years, I intend to offer a resolution commemorating the 16th anniversary of September 11, 2001. My resolution will do more than simply highlight this important date in our history. It will venerate the individuals who responded to the events of that day with courage, selflessness and dedication.

I would greatly appreciate if you would join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
