MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 5, 2017 01:10 PM
From: Representative Tim Hennessey
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Declaring May 2017 as Older Pennsylvanians Month

FROM: Tim Hennessey & Steve Samuelson
Chairmen, House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee

TO: To All House Members

SUBJECT: Resolution Declaring May 2017 as Older Pennsylvanians Month

Please join us in recognizing the month of May as "Older Pennsylvanians Month" in Pennsylvania.

Traditionally, May has been recognized as "Older Americans Month" here in Pennsylvania and across the nation. This year’s theme is “Age Out Loud.” We want to emphasize that older Americans are working longer, trying new things, and engaging in their communities.

Since 2011, approximately 10,000 Americans turn 65 every day. The baby boomer generation is a much different senior population than the previous generation. The “Age Out Loud” theme focuses on taking charge, striving for wellness, enjoying their independence, and seniors who are advocating for themselves and others.

Older Pennsylvanians are leading and inspiring others. We continue to recognize older adults for their contributions to our communities. As Chairmen of the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, we offer this resolution to specifically honor the older citizens of our Commonwealth.
