Subject: | Co-Sponsorship: Resolution designating March 22, 2017 as “World Water Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a Resolution designating March 22, 2017 as “World Water Day” in Pennsylvania in conjunction with the 2017 “World Water Day” international observance designated by the United Nations. As you may know, the first World Water Day observance stemmed from the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. In developing countries, 1.3 billion people are gaining access to safe drinking water through initiatives of the United Nations and other global entities. In addition, public and private entities across all continents must pursue unified water conservation work and continuing investment in infrastructure to make further progress. With that said, the 2017 World Water Day observance is focusing on how wastewater is perceived as a valuable resource and its safe management as an efficient investment in the health of humans and ecosystems. To the end, it is for these reasons and more that I am proud to offer this Resolution. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (717) 772-9850. |
