MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 6, 2017 03:57 PM
From: Representative Will Tallman
To: All House members
Subject: Parental Rights

I intend to re-introduce legislation that affirms parental rights in the Commonwealth (former HB1512).

I and many Pennsylvanians believe that parents have an intrinsic right to determine what is the best way to raise their children to ensure they grow up to become principled, healthy, and well-educated adults.

My legislation will sustain that intrinsic right of parents to determine the upbringing, education and care of their children. This law will prohibit any Commonwealth agency, political subdivision, municipal authority, or any other local government instrumentality from abridging this right without "demonstrating that its governmental interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served." This will apply to any State or local law or ordinance enacted before or after the effective date of this legislation.

This legislation shows Pennsylvanians that we respect the role of parents in the upbringing of their children. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation by clicking on the link below.
