House of Representatives
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 24, 2017 09:43 AM
From: Representative Eddie Day Pashinski
To: All House members
Subject: Early Voting

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce House Bill 208 of the 2015-16 legislative session, which would provide for early voting in primaries and elections.

My legislation would establish a period of early voting beginning 30 days before an election or primary and lasting until the Friday before the election. Early voting locations would include the main offices of county election boards and other sites designated by the boards. Finally, it would allow boards to set uniform days and times for early voting so long as they are open at least eight hours per weekday and eight hours total each weekend.

Thirty-four states now allow voters to cast a ballot in person before Election Day, with another three states conducting voting entirely by mail. These state policies provide voters with more access and convenience, thus increasing turnout and participation. Furthermore, more than 40 million people voted early in the 2016 presidential election.

Please join me in extending this convenience to Pennsylvania electors by co-sponsoring this legislation to enable early voting in Pennsylvania.
