Subject: | Resolution Honoring Former President Ronald Reagan |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution honoring former President Ronald Wilson Reagan on his 106th birthday. Ronald Reagan served as the 40th President of the United States. Prior to becoming President, Reagan served in the Army Enlisted Reserve, as President of the Screen Actors Guild, 33rd Governor of California, actor and radio announcer for the Chicago Cubs. At the time of his election, Reagan became the oldest elected U.S. President, a record he held until the election of Donald Trump in November 2016. Reagan served two terms as President and during that time he survived an assassination attempt, spurred the War on Drugs, fought public sector labor unions, advocated tax rate reduction to spur economic growth, reduction in government spending and reduced inflation from 12.5 percent to 4.4 percent. When he won his second term, he won by a landslide, winning 49 of 50 states and a record 525 electoral votes, the largest in history. Upon leaving office in 1989, Reagan’s approval rating was 68 percent which is the highest rating for a departing president in the modern era. In 1994, Reagan announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and passed away in 2004 at the age of 93. Please join me in celebrating the 106th birthday of former United States President, Ronald Wilson Reagan on February 6th. |
