Subject: | Property Tax Exemption for Service-Connected Disabled Veterans (Prior HB 206) |
I am planning to reintroduce legislation amending the PA Constitution to provide for a lifetime exemption from the payment of real estate taxes for service-connected disabled veterans. The purpose of this constitutional amendment is to exempt an individual who served in the PA National Guard or the US Armed Forces from the payment of a person’s property tax. In addition, this constitutional amendment would also remove the PA Veterans Commission as an entity determining need for this exemption. My proposal defines the term “veteran” as an individual who served in the US Armed Forces, including a reserve component of National Guard, and who were discharged or released for such service under conditions other than dishonorable. In addition, the current provision in the Constitution requiring a federal VA disability rating is removed, and there is no requirement that a veteran have a disability. Previous Cosponsors: V.
