Subject: | Unethical Organ Transplant Practices in China |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce a House Resolution (HR 1052 of 2013-14 Session) encouraging the medical community of Pennsylvania to help raise awareness of unethical organ transplant practices in China. Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual practice embedded in ancient Chinese culture with key values of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance. Since being introduced to the general public in 1992, Falun Gong has been taken up by over 100 million people in 53 countries around the world. Since 1999 Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted by the Chinese Government, involving widespread use of torture and abuse in detention centers and prisons. It is estimated that since 1999 more than one million Falun Gong adherents have been detained and approximately 65,000 Falun Gong adherents may have been killed for their organs. The harvested organs are used for transplants by hospitals, with recipients for these transplants being Chinese or individuals from abroad. I hope you will join in co-sponsoring this important resolution that will call on the Government of the People’s Republic of China to end the practice of forced organ harvesting and increase awareness of these unethical practices occurring in China. Thank you for your interest and support. |
