Subject: | No-Fly List Gun Sale Prohibition (Re-Introduction) |
In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation – former House Bill 1770 of the 2015-2016 Legislative Session – that would prohibit anyone who is currently named on the federal terrorist watch list, which includes the no-fly list, from purchasing or possessing a firearm in Pennsylvania. After the tragic loss of lives in both San Bernardino, California, and Paris, France, by those who were inspired by radical ideologies, we can no longer afford to put our citizens in danger by allowing guns to be sold to those on terrorist watch lists. An individual who is not allowed to board a plane due to suspected involvement in terrorism should not be allowed to own or purchase a firearm. Therefore, my legislation will require the Pennsylvania State Police to determine whether a potential buyer or transferee is named on the federal terrorist watch list prior to approving the sale or transfer of a firearm. As with any denial of an instant check, the person denied will continue to have the right to appeal that decision. We must do what we can to stop the senseless killings that have been taking place across the country, and this commonsense approach is just one piece in the puzzle. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
