House of Representatives
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 21, 2016 10:40 AM
From: Representative Harry Readshaw
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution: Military Service Opportunity Month (May 2017)

Upon our return, I plan to offer a resolution honoring May, 2017 as Military Service Opportunity Month in Pennsylvania. This resolution was offered by Representative Acosta last Session and it is designed to encourage our state and educational community to recognize the U.S. Military for its positive impact on the Pennsylvania educational system and its students.

The U.S. Military is one of the leading federal organizations that supports and invests in educational initiatives. It offers personal advancement for all students within the Commonwealth through education programming, starting at the high school level.

Military recruiters provide training in areas such as leadership development, anti-bullying, anti-drug, patriotism and programs that enhance the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum. Recruiters offer physical fitness training to students to fight the obesity epidemic in the United States.

It is also the mission of the U.S. Military to continue to offer outstanding career and educational opportunities to all students who seek the adventure of service to their nation.

Upon completion of service and using the training supplied by the U.S. Military, members are academically and professionally prepared to provide a multitude of career services to our state; including, but not limited to, medical services, advanced cyber security, law enforcement services, comprehensive legal services, a full range of engineering skills, satellite technology, communications and network development, and logistical and administrative support.

Please join me in recognizing the U.S. Military for the contributions it has made and will continue to make to the Pennsylvania educational system and its students by honoring May, 2017 as Military Service Opportunity Month throughout Pennsylvania.
