MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 21, 2016 10:18 AM
From: Representative Kerry A. Benninghoff
To: All House members
Subject: Adult Protective Services - 18 years and older

In the near future, I will be re-introducing HB 1930 (2015-16) that would amend the Adult Protective Services Act to include those 18 years and older.

Currently, once an individual with special needs turns 18, they are no longer under the protection of Children and Youth Services. My legislation would establish a statewide registry of individuals who have been convicted of assaulting a special needs adult.

I was contacted about a situation where a person with special needs was physically abused by a caretaker and even though the abuse was caught on a home security camera, the caretaker is still able to work with those special needs adults due to there not being a registry of these individuals.

Please join me in protecting those who are vulnerable and to allow them to receive the special care that they so deserve.

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Noel anoel@pahousegop.com. Thank you for your consideration!
