MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 21, 2016 09:59 AM
From: Representative Scott Conklin
To: All House members
Subject: Legislation Providing for a Telephone Number to Report Suspected Violations of Oil and Gas Laws (Former HB 522)

In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation (House Bill 522) that would establish a statewide toll-free telephone number for the reporting of suspected violations of oil and gas laws.

Specifically, this legislation would require that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) establish a telephone hotline, 1-855-CALL-4GAS, through which any suspected oil or gas violations could be reported.

DEP currently provides telephone numbers for the reporting of emergencies and general violations. However, there is not a singular, easily accessible telephone number through which all Pennsylvania residents are able to report possible violations of oil and gas laws, such as those relating to the extraction of oil and natural gas.

Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation.
