| Subject: | Creation of the Pennsylvania Tourism Commission |
| I am planning to reintroduce legislation (formerly HB 642) from last session which would create an independent Pennsylvania Tourism Commission that would serve as the state's official tourism marketing agency. Promoting Pennsylvania as a travel destination is currently a responsibility of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). With tourist dollars becoming increasingly more important to local economies across the state, I believe it is time for Pennsylvania to transfer this responsibility to a public-private partnership made up of tourism marketing professionals and industry stakeholders. Tourism is the second largest industry in the Commonwealth, generating $41 billion in economic activity in the state every year. Please join me in my attempt to support an industry that showcases our great state; attracts visitors from around the globe; and, ultimately maintains and creates jobs. It is important that we, as legislators, do all we can to help grow the industry. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
