MEMORANDUM

Subject: Resolution Designating April 15th as “Purple Up” Day in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating April 15th as “Purple UP Day” in Pennsylvania.

April is Month of the Military Child, a time to celebrate the many military children in Pennsylvania and to show appreciation for their sacrifices and applaud their courage when a parent is deployed overseas. States across the country are joining forces on April 15th to promote Purple Up! The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension started ”Purple Up! For Military Kids." What began as an initiative in the Granite State to support the Month of the Military Child, has gone nationwide.

In recognition of this celebration, I will be introducing a resolution designating April 15th as “Purple Up” Day in Pennsylvania. On this day, individuals are encouraged to wear purple (the color purple symbolizing all branches of the armed forces) in support of military families. Established by former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, the Month of the Military Child recognizes the important role military children play in our communities.

Please join me in supporting our military families and don’t forget to “Purple Up!” Thank you in advance for your consideration of this resolution.
