MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 8, 2015 02:04 PM

To: All House members
Subject: Prohibiting Federal Funding for Motorcycle Only Checkpoints

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation which would amend Title 75 to prohibit motorcycle only checkpoints.

Motorcycle only checkpoints are a controversial and unproven method of addressing motorcyclist safety. Targeting a single group of road users because of their chosen method of travel is simply unfair and unacceptable. The riding community would be better served if these limited federal dollars were used to augment and expand proven existing motorcycle awareness and safety programs.

This legislation would prohibit the use of federal funds for the use of motorcycle only checkpoints.

Adopting this legislation will help to ensure that no motorists will be targeted based solely on their chosen mode of transportation. Please join me in supporting this much needed legislation.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB373
